Welcome to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), the fifth largest university in the UK with over 33,000 students studying on the main campus in Preston, Penrith and Carlisle campuses, partner colleges across the North West region, the UK and China. The City Campus is right in the heart of Preston, England's newest city, and is a modern, green oasis in the city centre with competitively priced shops, pubs, clubs and eateries a short walk away. Foster Building The Foster building is the University's main reception point, situated on Fylde roundabout. It is home to the The 'i', the one stop student advice centre, one of the University's main refectories and the International Office. Maudland building Behind Foster building is Maudland building, home to the Faculty of Science. Here a new £9.3 million science building is being developed, which is due to be completed in August 2005. The new facility includes lecture theatres, specialist labs, computer suites, teaching rooms, a shop, student common rooms and wireless internet access. Harris Building The Harris building is the original Jubilee Technical College building erected in 1897 and extended at the beginning of the 1930's. The Harris building is home to the Department of Humanities, Lancashire Law School and the Department of Built Environment. Sports Centre The newly refurbished Foster Sports Centre, next to Foster building, opened its doors in September 2003, and was officially opened by Craig Brown, Manager of Preston North End Football Club, in February 2004. The excellent facility accommodates a wide range of sporting activities including a studio for health and fitness classes, martial arts and fencing. There is also an extended weights room with over £90,000 of new equipment and the main sports hall, which hosts badminton, basket ball, volleyball, netball, short tennis, five-a-side football, fencing and tennis. Preston Sports Arena Situated two miles to the North of Preston, Preston Sports Arena provides top quality all weather surfaces for football, rugby league, rugby union, hockey, athletics, netball, tennis, cricket, cycling and provides eight training areas for team training in a wide range of sports. The arena also has two indoor rooms for theory sessions and fitness assessment.
