What to study
This may be a very natural decision for you, you might have a calling to be a doctor or are perhaps obsessed with maths (there are people like that). Or you may have very little idea. University opens up a world of knowledge which you will not have experienced in school. There are courses to cover everything the question is which one fits with you. First do your research, find a number of courses that may interest you and then find out which University has them on offer. You will not find every course at every University.
The combination of a course and a university may decide it for you. Look into the University’s reputation for the specific course you are thinking of, some Universities specialise in certain fields and you may find that the course you are considering does not come top of the pile. Check out what type of teaching you will experience and how your work is assessed, if you’re not keen on exams, it may be worth going for a course that is course work based.
You also need to be realistic, each Uni will give you a guide to what grades they expect to be the entrance requirement for that course, if you are predicted three C’s, it is not worth wasting one of your UCAS options on a course that requires three A’s. But remember if you do get three A’s by surprise, (Well done!), there is always clearing, which will let you upgrade, it sounds like an airline flight!
